Balance

Greetings Folks,

Farming is very much a balancing act. Most lists this time of year start with the caveat that not everything will be perfectly finished on the day or week we set out to do it. Once farm share delivery starts harvest for shares over rules other tasks. Weeding, transplanting or seeding are still critical to making sure the succession of vegetables for harvest are happy and healthy. But in the days leading up to delivery we have to balance importance vs. deadline. As we get further into the season, days blur into bigger and bigger harvests and less time planting crops. Vegetables for the fall harvests have largely already been planted and we will spend the intervening months tending them. This year we are really appreciative of everyone who has come to the farm to help. Last year we did everything without extra help. We made it work, but it was a hustle. With the addition of our sweet babe having helpers has made a real difference. Knowing that we can get harvests done, and with the help of the worker shares to weed a crop or help wash vegetables is a big relief. There's always more to do but it feels really good to see the fields looking great and taken care of.

Happy Eating,

Elisabeth & Steven
